Business Pitch Competition

Lansing Economic Area Partnership (LEAP)

The Hatching is a business pitch competition that offers entrepreneurs in Clinton, Eaton, and Ingham counties the chance to pitch their business ideas to an audience and receive valuable feedback from experienced judges. All selected pitchers will have access to:

A pitch-building curriculum leading up to the event.
1-on-1 coaching and support to refine their idea and submission.
Guidance on pitch deck creation to ensure a strong, compelling presentation.

Workshops

Ready Set ASPIRE

Ready Set ASPIRE is offering hands-on summer internships for students interested in social impact, leadership, communications, research, and creative community engagement. Interns will gain real-world experience in nonprofit marketing and digital storytelling, youth workshop support and peer leadership, community research and impact evaluation, and creative empowerment projects. Participants will build professional skills in communication, teamwork, project planning, data literacy, and public speaking while contributing to initiatives that promote healthy relationships, optimal health, and youth empowerment in Greater Lansing.

This internship is designed to help students see themselves as leaders, innovators, and changemakers who can create meaningful impact in their communities.

The Chronicle Media Group

The Chronicle Media Group, a black-owned media company that's been a trusted voice in the Mid-Michigan Region for 40 years.we work to empower civil society by providing a platform where communities can learn about important issues and combat harmful stereotypes. Intro to Makers Space

Lansing Makers Network

Lansing Makers Network is the Lansing Area's local makerspace. An inclusive community workshop open to all to build, create, and explore. Youth will have the opportunity to tour the space and all of the tools and resources available to support their entrepreneurial goals. Youth will create make & take projects to familiarize them with some of the equipment.

Youth Organizing & Social Entrepreneurship

One Love Global

One Love Global's Freedom Summer Youth Organizing School is an experience for youth ages 12-25 in Lansing and Detroit to engage in community organizing and long-term transformative change. Last summer youth created a social enterprise plan to support youth mental health. Join the team this summer to prepare for implementation at Sexton and Waverly High School in the fall.

Junior Achievement of Mid Michigan

Achievement’s learning experiences promote the transferable skills and competencies students need to take advantage of economic opportunity and achieve economic mobility. Our lessons use financial literacy, work readiness, and entrepreneurial concepts to emphasize the importance of continuing education and training beyond high school, especially in high-growth, high-demand fields. At the same time, our experiential learning approach ensures students gain the critical and creative thinking, collaboration, communication, and technical literacy skills needed to become lifelong learners to navigate “what’s next” in our ever-changing world.

What is MBSK?

My Brother’s & Sister’s Keeper Metro Lansing is a certified MBK Community in affiliation with the My Brother’s Keeper Alliance at The Obama Foundation. Formerly known as MY Lansing (Mayor’s Young Lansing MBK), MBSK launched in 2014 under the leadership of former Mayor Virg Bernero. Backbone support is provided by One Love Global in partnership with Lansing Economic Area Partnership (LEAP).

What is the MBSK Lansing Opportunity Hub?

The MBSK Lansing Opportunity Hub is a web portal to connect youth with opportunities to build relationships, knowledge and skills in entrepreneurship and career development. Our goal is for youth to see themselves as innovators and employers of the future.

Who is the Hub for?

The Hub will be available to students at Sexton High School for a pilot launch in the summer of 2026.

What opportunities are available?

The Hub will connect youth with entrepreneurship programs, workshops, pitch competitions, internships, apprenticeships, entrepreneur shadowing, mentorship, education and other opportunities that will help youth gain knowledge, skills and confidence as aspiring entrepreneurs and job creators.

When is the deadline to register?

The deadline for Sexton students to register is May 8, 2026.

What happens after I register?

After your registration is received you will be contacted to confirm your participation and to provide you with the contact information for opportunities that best match your interests.
