25th annual Día de Los Muertos celebration celebrates life, ancestors

Friends and families will gather at One Love Global in Lansing to celebrate Día de Los Muertos or Day of the Dead.

The celebration, which runs from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday at 3525 S. Martin Luther King Blvd, marks 25 years of Día de Los Muertos celebrations in Lansing. Organized by theDía de Los Muertos Advisory Committee, the event honors indigenous roots and dearly departed family members with a day of music, dancing and more.

Patricia E. Briones, a Lansing educator, has helped organize festivities since the start. She said some faces have changed over the years, but the traditions, rooted in the practices of the indigenous people of Mexico, endure.

"Our first objective is to keep the traditions of our ancestors and our culture," Briones said.
